Hybrid Transport

Between 1936 and 1939 Harrods, the famous London department store, built 60 of these vehicles for use in their own delivery fleet.
They were used for deliveries, locally, in the fashionable and rich suburbs of London.
The electric motor is rated at 3.5hp giving the van a top speed of 19mph when fully laden. More than adequate for the streets of Knightsbridge & Mayfair where they were a common sight.
The batteries are housed in two large battery boxes on either side between the wheels. This van covered about 350,000 miles before being withdrawn in 1967.
It was then restored by Harrods before being presented to the Science Museum, London.
An historic Italian city to which these vehicles lend themselves well is Florence (Firenze), where they run along streets which are out of bounds to petrol and diesel vehicles.

The MEGA van is well suited as an urban or campus delivery vehicle; it has a low 38cm load height with capacity of 3m3 and can take normal sized pallets. There is an option to add a side sliding door for easy pavement access and the sides of the van offer a large 5m3 of advertising space for the small local business owner.
